Sourdough Bread! Mary from Rustling Grass has baked bread for as long as I know her, bestowing her gifts upon us willing eaters and has over the summer been selling her loaves at the farmers market. We picked up some and have it in the freezer to ship out with your share. Mini loaves are between $5-6 and large loaves are between $11-14, depending upon the style. She has;
- Original White Sourdough
- Country ( Whole Wheat blend) Sourdough
- Cinnamon Raisin Swirl Sourdough
- Italian Herb Sourdough
- "Everything" Sourdough
- Garlic Parmesan Sourdough
- Double Chocolate Chip Sourdough
You can find ingredients on each of the loaves. Let me know 4 days before your share ships to order the bread for her to make and bake. Worth the wait!
Last bit of news to share before I forget, we have a large quantity of very fatty bacon. We are calling it Streaky Bacon! I'm enjoying cooking it, rendering off the excess fat and cooking the potatoes we harvest in them. Or, sauteing the last of the green beans, or frying a lovely egg to top your toast. It is a delicious way to pep up just about anything. It is on sale for $5/lb and if you would like any, let me know.

I am beat. It seems to have hit somewhere in the last two weeks. A sniffle, a headache, the feeling of having just about wrapped up possibly the craziest year ever and the need to take a long, deep, breath and feeling, perhaps relief, that we are on the other side. This fall has been one for the record books. On one side of the ledger, great weather has allowed us to clean, store away (hay, garden, wood), fix fence, keep the beef herd out on pasture while at the same time...I'm also out of breath in this race to the finish, asking "When on earth are we going to finally get the killing frost?" that naturally puts a hard stop to some jobs. Just wait... give us all a month or two, by late December/early January we will be plotting the new year with all the enthusiasm of what can only be described as 'a calling'. The smell of spring will have us all off to the race again, thankfully, as always. We hope you all enjoy your Thanksgivings, surrounded by those who cheer you on and are grateful for bread broken together.
