OCTOBER 2025 CSA NEWSLETTER

Very last day of September and what a month it was! June, July & August have been averaging 1" to 1.5" of rain, roughly half of what we normally receive and it has made the pastures dry. What is surprising is the depth of moisture when we dig bellow the surface. Beef grazing in short spurts and then letting the ground rest has created such a thick "sponge" of organic matter and living microbes beneath that mat of grass! The pastures maintain moisture far longer than our neighbors, which is noted. Instead of the weird people who are always moving our animals - others have started to follow suit. It is incredibly encouraging to see!

We spoke to soon! Our friends to the south of us ( Rustling Grass) started chicks and then heard their processor was not going to be able to do them, so we now have more chickens out on pasture - which means more chicken for y'all!

September was full & blessed beyond our comprehension. We knew we wanted to have a place for the beef herd to get out of the wet, muddy ground during the fall/winter/spring and having a place we can easily bed down with fresh hay was the goal. Everything fell into place so quickly, we are still reeling. From the dry weather allowing us to dig, the contractor who poured the pad getting us in last minute, to being able to move all the sheds and place them before it became too muddy to do so. No injuries and other than fencing and fresh bedding, we are ready for winter!  For the time being, I'm soaking up the sunshine and incredibly thankful for this September.

Cottage Pie is my type of comfort food.

Please do let us know if you are interested in turkey so we can set them aside for you! October is one of my very favorite months, we wrap up and get ready to hunker down and enjoy a tiny bit of hibernation - mixed with more inside projects that finally rise to the top of the priority list. Have a wonderful October and enjoy the leaves changing all the colors!

Cheers,
Kassandra
