AUGUST 2025 CSA NEWSLETTER

After months of not having any chicken, it is finally here! Dreaming of Tuscan Chicken Pasta, cold winters with slow cooked Chicken Barley Soup steaming on the stove, Barbecued Chicken Drumstick and so much more... With the chickens going from out on pasture to being safely stored away in the freezer, it frees us to do other projects. Like... a "Hippodrome" This building is to store equipment, a mechanic shop, partial laboratory, hay storage, and area for beef herd to get off of the wet ground when it becomes soaking in the late fall and early spring. Our plan is to go in stages, first laying the foundation for just a once section of cement and adding additional sections as funds allow. From there, we can put up the walls and roof. A large endeavor, but one that is dearly needed and we are excited to begin!

Was weeding my garden a few days ago and watched a small flock of geese honking overhead. Gathering themselves. That is what the preparation for winter is like, a gathering in. We fling out, seeds and animals, to the four winds. Every pasture and garden filled with things that are multiplying and then a cool breeze marks the shift from the intensity of summer to the work of fall. After the past few weeks of very warm ( mid 90's for us is as hot as we normally get and I'm SO thankful for that) the cooler temps of today is such a reprieve. It will spike and we will have our toasty days to enjoy however, we all see the trees begin to shade their leaves with tinges of color and realize the gather must happen to be ready for winters white.
My freezer is filling with blueberries, black raspberries, and strawberries. Our favorites, all stored for deliciousness later. One thing to note, we are planning better this year, to store chicken for you all! Our goal is to make sure we have some into the spring months, hopefully. What is your favorite freezer items that you hate to be without? Hope you have a spectacular August filled with plenty.
Cheers,
Kassandra
