November 2024 CSA Newsletter
This is to commemorate “Big Fatty”. Born here on the ranch to her mother; “The Big Whale”, one of our original Herefords. Was several years old in this picture, which was taken over a decade ago. She never varied in size or temperament, steady as she goes, and the same with her calves. Big Fatty was gold and if we had a hundred of her, I would be so grateful. And thankful for all the years we had her in our herd.
Rustling Grass has pasture raised Turkey available… and if you want to reserve one ( 8-16 lb. sizes) we need to know ASAP to send it along with your CSA Share. They are $8/lb. and delicious! Eathon and Cole went down two weeks ago to Evans Mills to help the Smith family harvest nearly 90 and earned a turkey for our Thanksgiving dinner. I’m looking forward to it!

Picked up our beef & pork from the butcher…. and a huge box of his Honeycrisp apples. Those apples got turned into pie..which was enjoyed with a hot coffee. October has been splendid. Cool mornings, sunny, warm afternoons and the sunrises and sunsets to match. Cole has been spending hours and hours in the excavator digging the “Shark Pond” ( a story concocted for a 5 year old and the name stuck) and expanding it. Eathon has been storing all the various equipment and supplies. Chicken crates, Grit, the cattle chute, ladders, fencing panels. The list goes on and on. Wood is pulled from the fields, dying trees are being cut down so they don’t fall on very living animals, split and stashed in the shed to dry for winter. Pet food is ground, packaged and frozen. Flower beds are expanded, cleaned and prepped for next year. All between filling, shipping, delivering all the orders for y’all. Truly, our days are never the same way twice.
Soaking in the sunshine, shivering in the frosty mornings. Hope you all have a very Thankful November!
Kassandra
