CHICKEN IS BACK

We ran out of chicken way back in March…. If you are salivating at the thought of grilled chicken, chicken pasta salad, BBQ chicken or any other variation, the wait is over! The Stutzman’s suprised us and were able to make 4 of our processing dates, which made the work that much more fun. Another lovely family joined us and a LONG day Tuesday was full laughter and teasing. The last of our birds are the size of small turkeys and their “done” alarm keeps going off ( AKA, the roosters have started to crow. Think teenage boys with cracking voices.)

Meals are featuring everything we find fresh. Mixed greens top our bacon with bagels from the farmers market and fresh potatoes fried in our tallow complete a fast meal. Our home freezer is filling with fruit; strawberries, black raspberries, blackcaps. Soon, diced sweet peppers & onions ready for a quick saute. A letter goes out to our local Amish garlic grower to order more of his powerful garlic his wife brought with him from Canada. Those will be diced up, packed in a ball jar and topped with olive oil. This minced garlic is delicious and lasts me an entire year if I do enough.

Everything bagel, fresh greens, smoked bacon with tallow fried potatoes.

Our Summer Shipping Schedule is below! Share invoices come out on the 21st of every month and I will post this newsletter on our blog shortly after. I will also email you the link so you don’t miss the news. If the first shipping date doesn’t work for you, just let us know and we can arrange a later ship day. Here is the upcoming schedule!

  • August Shares Shipping; July 30th
  • September Shares Shipping; August 27th
  • October Shares Shipping ; September 24th *Tentatively*

We drive all of your shares/orders about 3 hours south which allows those precious boxes to arrive the following day at your home.  Less time in transit means the meat arrives cold and ready for your freezer. We can ship from the ranch on other weeks, however we do not offer coverage on losses or thawed meat. Please email or call if you would like to discuss a different schedule. Also, we are happy to double up on a month if you will be away the next delivery date.

Share options for this month ( below is an example share for a Small Beef, Pork & Chicken, your share may be different) are pretty flexible, let us know if you would like to switch out any cuts or need something for a special dinner.

  • Beef Roast – Chuck, Sirloin, London Broil or Brisket
  • Ground Beef or Beef Patties ( 1/4# or 1/3#)
  • Ground Pork or Pork Stew or Kabob
  • CHICKEN! Boneless/Skinless Breast OR Boneless Thighs
  • Pork Chops ( bone-in or boneless)

  • Smoked Bacon, Extra of any cut or LAMB – Currently remaining; Ground Lamb, Shanks, Stew, Kabob or Chops.

You can also add; Maple Syrup, Honey, Meat Sticks, Jerky, and Sausage to your share. Just email us with what you are looking to add and we do the rest!

Heading over to move the cattle to a new pasture.

Caught all three of these walking to move the beef herd. I’m so, so thankful we have this. Hard work, long days, but we get to do it together. One of the whippersnappers *May* have been teasing me yesterday about being similar to trying to start a diesel truck on a cold day. Those 3:30am mornings are getting to me, and the coffee does in fact act like ether. Assisting in getting me up an at em!

The breezes have turned cool, all the harvests have been early and quick and the desire to load in provisions is felt by everyone. Winter was sad, more mud and rain than our snow and hard ground. Even the animal prefer the clean, crisp frozen ground and snowfall to being wet, or at least damp, muddy and miserable. I’m hoping for a ‘real’ winter and know that I better prepare for it!

May your August be filled with sunshine, some days to enjoy the loveliness of summer and expectation of the changing seasons.
