October 2023 CSA Newsletter
This year marks the 20th of our ranching adventure for our family. Did you know that ranching, butchery, or victualler has been our family heritage for right around 14 generations? Seems we have a history of endless optimism and a desire to be around animals.
UPDATE * Do to the extended summer and heat next week, we are shipping the following week – October 10th! Your share is shipping NEXT Tuesday October 3rd and for those locally, we plan on delivering them to your door Friday October 6th. If you need an alternative date, just let us know by emailing us.
Fall calving is SUPPOSED to be done… and yet, we have two new calves born last week and Francesca will calve any minute. Only a few guesses as to how that happened.
The herd is full of mischief makers, the very young cautiously following teenage instigators. They sniff out trouble, play hideaway from their mothers, and generally are hilarious to watch. The late afternoon is play time and watching them fly around the field, hooves and tail flying high are a pleasure to hold us over during their more trying times ( fence jumpers, water tank disturbers, hideaways).
Every month your invoice will come out on the 21st and this newsletter will be posted on our blog. I will also email you the link so you don’t miss the news. If the first shipping date doesn’t work for you, just let us know and we can arrange a later ship day. Here is the upcoming schedule!
- October Shares Shipping; October 3rd ( or any other week)
- November Shares Shipping; November 7th ( or any other week)
- December Shares Shipping; December 5th ( or any other week)
Share options for this month ( below is an example share for a Small Beef, Pork & Chicken, your share may be different) are pretty flexible, let us know if you would like to switch out any cuts or need something for a special dinner. LAMB! Finally… if you love it and want a 5 lb. additional share ( $75) let us know or we are happy to add some to your current share. Just let us know!
- Berkshire Pork Shoulder or Smoked Ham Steaks (1.5″ thick & about 2 lb. each)
- Ground Beef
- Ground Pork or Sausages ( Breakfast, Sweet or Hot Italian, Chorizo or Kielbasa)
- Boneless Chicken Breast or Skin-on Thighs
- Beef Sirloin or Sirloin Tip Steak
- Beef NY Strip, T-bone, Porterhouse or Ribeye Steak
- LAMB!! Ground, Stew, Kabob, Chops, Ribs, Leg, and more OR, if you don’t want lamb – we have Short ribs, Beef Stew OR a cut of your choice!
You can also order Maple Syrup, Honey, Meat Sticks, Jerky and Summer Sausage and have them all added on to your share. Just email us with what you are looking to add and we do the rest!
Many of you have asked how Vinny was …( he became lame almost two months ago, days after being put out with the ladies for breeding season). The vet was called and after examining his injured hoof she said the words no one wants to hear “I’m sorry.” He wasn’t in a ton of pain, so we said, lets treat it and see if he might heal. As of today, he is limping along on FOUR legs, Hallelujah! He may always have a limp, but in just a few days he will go back out with his ladies once again. Lots of prayer and we are so thankful for his healing!
